Serve, Share, Customize is a home modification program, providing up to $15,000 for accessibility modifications.

The following households are eligible for this program:

  • A. Household where all members are age 62 or older
  • B. Household where all members are age 62 or older, or age 17 or younger where the household member age 62 or older is the guardian of the younger household members
  • C. Household with a member of any age with a permanent disability, currently receiving permanent disability benefits or the disability is verified by a third party professional

General program requirements: 

  • Have an income at or below 80% of the area median income (please click here to find out if you meet the income guidelines)
  • Have lived in your home for at least 18 months prior to program enrollment
  • Must stay in your home for at least 5 years (there will be a 5 year lien on your home)
  • Eligible properties include: single-family homes, condos, modular units, and duplexes (there are restrictions for this)
  • Existing mortgage obligations must be current and paid as agreed
  • Need to have up-to-date homeowner’s insurance
  • A $100 non-refundable application fee for Seeds Area residents and $150 for non-Seeds Area residents (please click here to find out if you are in the Seeds Area)

Eligible Modifications:

  • ramps/zero step entries, hand rails, levered door handles, self-closing hinges (internal/external doors), pocket doors or swing hinges
  • bathroom modifications: walk/roll-in showers, grab bars, re-bath (easy entry bath), ADA-approved toilets/drop-down grab bar, roll-under vanity, and lower level 1/2 bath conversions
  • kitchen modifications: lowering existing cabinets or replacing with ADA-approved cabinets, lowered and/or roll under ADA-approved counters
  • internal chair and wheelchair lifts, relocating laundry facilities to main floor, home modification assessment expenses (up to $500), widened doorways, installation of smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors, universal design floor coverings

Other Repairs (up to 50%–$7,500–of funds can be used for minor home rehabilitation)

  • roofing, siding, windows, exterior doors, water heaters, HVAC, gutters and downspouts, soffit and fascia, weather stripping, attic and wall insulation, plumbing (whole systems), and electrical (to meet code)
